Ntungamo District Approves Shs76bn Budget, Prioritises Agriculture
Ntungamo District has approved a substantial budget of Shs76 billion for the 2026/2027 financial year, demonstrating a commitment to sustaining and improving essential services. This budget, consistent with the previous year's allocation, reflects the district's determination to enhance local revenue collection and strengthen service delivery across critical sectors.
During the district budget consultative workshop, Chief Administrative Officer Fildeus Kizza highlighted a strategic shift towards boosting internal revenue generation. Despite receiving similar Indicative Planning Figures (IPFs) as in 2025/2026, the district is implementing innovative strategies to increase revenue. Kizza assured that the budget remains intact and expressed optimism about further growth in the upcoming financial year.
The district's primary focus remains on agriculture and production under the Parish Development Model (PDM), targeting low-income earners to empower them through viable enterprises. Additionally, the rehabilitation of key road infrastructure is a priority to enhance accessibility and facilitate trade.
District Chairperson Samuel Mucunguzi Rwakigoba underscored the 2026/2027 plan's emphasis on infrastructure development, human capital enhancement, climate change mitigation, water and sanitation, and agro-industrialisation. The PDM will continue to serve as the cornerstone of the district's development strategy.
In the health sector, District Health Officer Dr. Bahati reported positive developments, including improved service delivery. However, she highlighted persistent staffing and wage shortfalls, which continue to challenge the sector's effectiveness. The district plans to procure motorcycles and process land titles to enhance healthcare accessibility.
Despite these challenges, district leaders remain optimistic about the 2026/2027 financial year's prospects. They anticipate improvements in local revenue collection, agricultural productivity, road infrastructure, and access to quality healthcare for residents. This budget approval signifies a proactive approach to addressing the district's needs and fostering sustainable development.
