Seventeen-year-old identical triplets Oscar, Francis, and Conrad Cvitan from Mt Lawley are ready to take their indie-funk-pop band Birdland to the next level this weekend. The trio will headline Groundswell Live at Scarborough Beach, performing for what will be their biggest audience yet. This Saturday afternoon show is part of Groundswell, the City of Stirling’s iconic free two-day festival celebrating surf, skate, BMX, and 3x3 basketball competitions. Now in its 12th year, the event also includes lifestyle and wellness exhibitions, making it a community favorite. Sharing the stage with Birdland will be other standout performers like country-pop star Emily Joy, celebrated Noongar/Wongi rapper Flewnt, and Triple J Unearthed High 2024 winner Mariae Cassandra.
While juggling Year 11 ATAR studies and daily band rehearsals hasn’t been easy, the Cvitan brothers are already looking ahead. “We’re serious about pursuing music after school,” Francis said confidently. “Education matters, but once we finish, we’re going all in.” Oscar echoed that passion: “We want to keep writing, performing, recording — maybe even tour when we’ve got enough songs out. Music’s what we love most.”
